Christo's Valley Curtain

If someone were to ask me if I knew who Christo was before this class, I would have no clue as to who they were talking about. Now I can proudly say YES I know exactly who he is.

Initial thoughts on Christo's Valley Curtain:

  • The manly construction guy is a babe. How old is he? kids?
  • Motivated to start working on future projects I have in mind.
  • I love his woman partner, she's a HOOT.
  • I wish I was as creative as Christo, the man's a genius.
  • The golfers are cool.

Watching Christo's Valley Curtain was absolutely astounding! I mean I can't even imagine how long of a process it actually took from the initial ideas and sketches, to have it finally be presented for the world to see. I enjoy watching and making documentaries myself, and to see how in 1970's they were able to produce such a film as this one, it just shocks me. And to think of all the effort they put in to getting the shots they were able to get, having to deal with background noise, lighting, and all the other problems they were faced with and to have such a great outcome, it's amazing.  It just goes to show you that if you put in the effort, dedication, hard work, then you can achieve what you want.

I wonder how much that fabric weighed and where in the world would they find that much fabric?... I feel like the fabric store wouldn't supply enough. (joke) How did Christo come up with such an idea?

I was curious to know a little bit more about Christo's Curtain project so I did a little research. I was able to find that they tried a different time trying to put up the curtain but the wind blew it down. Christo and Jean-Claude (helper/wife) designed a new layout for the curtain and was a success the second time. The final curtain stayed up for 28 hours before having to take it down due to winds.

  1. That is very interesting that the first attempt at making the project failed. He must have been determined. I wonder if the documentary people were around for the failed attempt.
